About This Project
When adding an ADU or Accessory dwelling unit 🏠to your home always keep in mind that the city will require you to solarize ☀️ the unit. This is part of the new California legislation to mandate solar panels on ADU and all new buildings.
On this particular project we installed 5.6 KW of solar capacity on a shingle roof of this brand new 1200 Sqft. ADU. These panels will output approximately 8,000 KWh of electricity each year. This should more than cover the entire usage of this new dwelling achieving a net zero outcome. 👏
It is also important to consider the existing electrical architecture of the Main home to know if electrical equipment will need to be upgraded. For the most part if the main home has enough power to feed a 100 amp sub panel on the ADU then you should not have any additional expenses on upgrading. If however the main home only has a 100 amp electrical panel then an upgrade will be unavoidable.
Many Homeowners are reaching out to NRG with request to add solar panels on their ADU to pass the Title 24 requirements. Please reach out if you have a similar project, we would love to help!
